April 22-30, 2017
Our third Heart and Hand retreat began in Panama City, a historical part of Latin America that boasts incredible architecture and a vibrant local culture. Here, we spent 3 nights and 2 days visiting the Panama Canal and touring Casco Viejo. We stayed at the Saba Hotel and enjoyed the local nightlife on Via Argentina. We also volunteered with two nonprofit organizations that assist in improving the lives of local children and adults in under-served communities. We sorted and boxed food donations for Banco de Alimentos and taught yoga to teenagers at the nonprofit dance school Enlaces,
After two full days in Panama City, we took a shuttle to Sansara Surf and Yoga Resort, on the southern coast of Panama. At Sansara, we delved more deeply into our yoga and meditation practices (focusing this year on the link between risk-taking and compassion), swam in the oceanfront pool, relaxed in hammocks, and enjoyed the stunning beaches. We also volunteered at the local school, organizing and leading a morning of yoga, arts & crafts, and playground games for the students. We made great connections and had a blast!
