Heart and Hand: Nicaragua
April 23-May 1, 2016
On our second Heart and Hand yoga retreat, we began in the historical, picturesque city of Granada, where we spent two and a half days sightseeing and working with La Esperanza Granada, a nonprofit organization that assists in improving education for the underserved communities in Granada. We did a walking tour of colonial Granada, ate at some of the town's best and quirkiest restaurants (pizza in Granada was amazing!), and kayaked on Lake Nicaragua and fed monkeys in trees. We spent one day painting two school buildings for our partner organization, and leading teenagers in yoga, soccer, and art activities. We also practiced yoga and meditation daily, and relaxed together at the end of the hot days in the hotel's pool. On day 4, we headed to Aqua Wellness Resort, a first-class yoga retreat center that sits on the jaw-dropping Emerald Coast of the Redonda Bay. At Aqua, we delved more deeply into our yoga practices, swam and surfed in the ocean, watched monkeys swing from treetops, hiked, made chocolate from cacao beans, ate delicious food, and watched the sun set nightly over the yoga deck.
